What is love? Love is what we are made of at the level of our true, eternal, and divine self. God is pure love and bliss, and given we are “…made in the image and likeness of God,” we are also made of pure love and bliss. The problem is that most people are seeking to get love not knowing that they are the very experience and feeling they are seeking. Running after love they experience disappointment after disappointment. Most people try to make themselves lovable in some way, like a commodity sold in the marketplace, in the hope that someone will come along, find them lovable, and then give them the love that he or she has so desperately been seeking. The real art is not in knowing how to be lovable, but in how to love. Being interested in others and in life is much more rewarding than endeavoring to be someone who is interesting to others. It is better to give (love or friendship) than to receive. Of course, when we are successful in giving, we receive many times more than we gave. This is one of the natural laws like the law of gravity. Since we are love we don’t need to go anywhere in search of love. What we can do is endeavor to bring happiness, love, and prosperity to others, and then we will automatically feel this most cherished of all feelings: love. Selfless service is the essence of love. In a loving relationship the lover seeks to please his or her beloved. A mother loves her child by bringing happiness, comfort, and well-being to her precious child. In return the mother is filled with love. Those who care for their gardens, love their gardens, and have lovely and bountiful gardens. An abundant garden gives back to the gardener much more than the gardener ever gave to the garden. Giving with love into God’s service is the perfect path to enlightenment, happiness, and prosperity. In this world love is rare, and yet it is possible when we remember that God loves us and is continuously working for our happiness, well-being, and prosperity. Since we are godlike, we are to do the same. When we seek to empower, enrich, and nurture others, our happiness, love, and good fortune is guaranteed.
